چکیده
A Task Force on Pulmonary-Hepatic Vascular Diseases (PHD), approved and funded by the European Respiratory Society (ERS), was developed by a panel of chest physicians, hepatologists and gastroenterologists during the period 2002–03 and published in 2004 [1]. The major goals of this ERS Task Force on PHD are: (1) to increase awareness of both hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) and portopulmonary hypertension (POPH) in the medical community to combat their growing morbidity and mortality; (2) to optimise their diagnosis and management; and, (3) to stimulate research interest. The current document summarises the most important aspects.

Two distinct pulmonary vascular disorders, hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) and portopulmonary hypertension (POPH) may occur as a consequence of hepatic parenchymal or vascular abnormalities. HPS and POPH have major clinical implications for liver transplantation. A European Respiratory Society Task Force on Pulmonary-Hepatic Disorders convened in 2002 to standardize the diagnosis and guide manag...

متن کاملThe Role of Anion Exchanger on Pulmonary Vascular Response to Sustained Alveolar Hypoxia in the Isolated Perfused Rabbit Lung
Background: Some respiratory diseases may induce alveolar hypoxia thereby hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). However, the mechanisms of this physiologic phenomenon are not fully understood. This study was the first to investigate the role of anion exchanger in sustained HPV.Methods: Experiments were performed in the isolated perfused rabbit lung. After preparation, the lungs were divided...

Background: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), a fatal orphan disease, is defined as increased mean Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (mPAP) above 25 mm/Hg, Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure (PCWP) below 15 mm/Hg, and pulmonary vascular Resistance over 3 Wood Unit (WU). Although Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a relatively prevalent disease, the idiopathic form (iPAH) is a rare disease with a pre...
